Summary #2

1.      Discuss the major events that led up to the American Revolution.  Include dates in your discussion.

Too many events happened before the America revolution, all of them were a contribution to the Revolution. Everything started with the taxes because British were trying to protect their new territory. In order to keep their territory they needed money so everybody was taxed. It was in 1765 when the Parliament passed the Stamp Act. Then in the same year, people from Boston protested against the SA.

Nevertheless, the parliament passed another law in 1767 and obviously Bostonians argued that they didn’t have any representation. In that year born a group called the “Sons of Liberty” they had the 13 colonies support so they started to fight against British.

These events led up to the revolution but the Boston massacre was one of the most significant for this revolution. It was in 1768 when people from Boston set fire to tax collectors homes. Then on March 5, 1770, Bostonians began to harbor over the Parliaments, British soldiers because they killed five citizens and six wounded people.

On the other hand, people from Boston started to do their own tea parties in 1773. When King of England and the parliament heard about that, they decide to punish them. That is why in 1774 they closed the port of Boston and all Bostonians people wrote a letter of protest to the king. This situation was worst and worst everyday. In 1775 British and Bostonians fight between them, which we know as the first America Revolution fight. As a consequence of that, the Parliament closed all the ports so Bostonians thought that it was better to be independent from the mother country. This happened on July 4, 1776 but the America revolution lasted until 1783.”

Summary #1

There are three psychological traits which can help us adapt to a new culture. It can be in an easy way, such as personal curiosity, tolerance, differences and across- cultural perspective. These three characteristics are very helpful to face the different phases of the cultural shock.

First of all, we have the personal curiosity which helps you to understand some people behave. Furthermore, that curiosity led you to read everything that you can see, to eat everything that any person offers you. Sometimes, because of that curiosity you would like to meet people, to share things, for example your culture, exchange words and talk about music, political things, etc. It also helps you to explore the culture and one of the most important things is to get out and go places. The same curiosity makes you to ask a lot of questions in order to know more about that culture. This helps you adapt to the new culture.

Secondly, we can find the tolerance and differences. These traits that people show you help you to feel yourself warm psychologically and physically. However, you have to be sure that you have an emotional support group which would be people from your country. In this case, you can include people from the new country and one teacher for the school or college that you go, can be part of that group.

Finally, we have the across-cultural perspective. It shows us how to learn to look a new culture and behavior. In this phase, we can see that every culture is unique and has its cultural norms.”Connerton, P. & Reid, F (1993). Linkages: Acontent-based integrated skills text.
